Scott Matthew is celebrating his 20th anniversary on the Berlin stage in 2027 with an exclusive show trilogy at the BAR JEDER VERNUNFT.
Scott Matthew first performed live in Berlin on May 7, 2007, at the former Basso art collective on Köpenicker Straße. Alone, accompanied only by his ukulele, he sang his delicate, bittersweet, and melancholy songs from the award-winning feature film "Shortbus". A few months later, on December 12, 2007, his first official Berlin show followed at the sold-out Kino Babylon-Mitte — even before the release of his debut album.
Since then, Scott Matthew has been deeply connected both artistically and personally to Berlin and its creative scene. Personal and professional relationships link his life inextricably to the city on the Spree. Berlin, its history, and its residents have inspired several of his songs. Rosenthaler Platz also holds a very special highlight for Scott: there, in a small recording studio, he recorded a duet for his cover album together with his father, Ian Matthew. His parents had traveled all the way from Australia to accompany their son on tour, spending unforgettable days with him in the capital.
Scott Matthew has played legendary shows at legendary venues across the city, such as the aforementioned Basso, .HBC, Passionskirche, Schokoladen, and BAR JEDER VERNUNFT. And it is precisely there, in September 2027, that he will celebrate his stage anniversary with three distinct show evenings under the guiding theme "Anecdotes and Antidotes."
Anyone who has ever experienced Scott Matthew live knows that his shows thrive on contrasts. Now, the Australian singer-songwriter invites you to a trilogy of melancholy.
With his magical stage presence and voice, Scott Matthew conveys an emotional depth that goes straight to the heart. Hardly any other singer-songwriter transforms weltschmerz and longing so elegantly into pure beauty. Yet his sadness is never overwhelming—instead, his songs are a comforting balm that offers hope, heals, and serves as the ultimate antidote to loneliness. And between the deeply sad, bittersweet, and melancholy songs, he almost always breaks the heavy mood with intimate, tragicomic, humorous, and wonderfully honest anecdotes.
On the first two evenings (Friday and Saturday), Scott Matthew will dive deep into the multifaceted repertoire of his original songs. Two nights, two distinct setlists, centering around his touching original compositions. Milestones, classics, and dark pearls from his six studio albums. And perhaps he will even surprise his audience with one or two new, previously unreleased songs.
The third evening (Sunday), featuring "Covers Only," will form the emotional finale of the concert cycle. Scott Matthew will thus showcase the full spectrum of his work. A concert dedicated exclusively to his brilliant cover versions, known from his two cover albums "Unlearned" and "A Small Conduit Of Great Affairs", as well as his legendary encores.
For these three concerts at the BAR JEDER VERNUNFT, Scott Matthew will be accompanied on stage by his longtime fellow musicians Marisol Limon Martinez (piano), Sam Taylor (cello), Jürgen Stark (guitar), and Gary Langol (guitar, bass).
